Hotel Marketing KPIs: A Practical Measurement Checklist
Choose indicators that reflect bookings and revenue, not only marketing activity.
Separate awareness from conversion
Awareness campaigns may be tracked with qualified reach and engagement measures, while booking-focused efforts need reservation outcomes and acquisition costs. Use the metric that matches the intended objective. A lower-funnel metric by itself may undervalue early journey activity.
Measure the booking journey
Useful funnel indicators include relevant landing-page visits, search engagement, booking-engine starts, completion rate and confirmed reservations. Track drop-offs to identify friction, but investigate tracking quality before attributing every change to a design or campaign decision.
Understand commercial value
Booking value, revenue attributable to campaigns, ROAS, cost per acquisition, room nights and average length of stay provide a richer picture. Compare net revenue where the underlying data allows and document adjustments for cancelled or modified reservations.
Use context when comparing markets
Travel season, inventory, rate strategy, channel mix and lead time all affect performance. Define comparison periods carefully and avoid assuming that a market with the most visits is also the market with the highest commercial value.
Build a KPI review template
For each metric, document its formula, data source, update frequency, attribution rules and owner. Create a small action log connecting a reported change to a decision and subsequent review. Consistency makes reporting more valuable over time.
